Brij Utsah

Poet • Born 31 Aug 1984 • Kachhwa, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh

I was born into a humble family on 31st August 1984, in the quiet town of Kachhwa, Mirzapur. My childhood moved in a gentle, unassuming rhythm — simple days, small joys — and early on the path of learning entered my life.

Schooling was taken in village and nearby schools until the twelfth standard. Yet education was never handed to me easily. Within my home there was often indifference toward study; at times even opposition. Still, a steady love for reading and the pull of words kept me going.

With determination I completed a Bachelor of Commerce from Gyanpur. My heart wished to carry on — to read more, to learn deeper — but family responsibilities and resistance made me pause that journey.

From early on, my father’s illness placed heavy responsibilities on my shoulders. Life taught me through hardship. Some experiences were so painful that language felt small against them.

It was in those quiet, aching places that the pen became my refuge. Writing soothed the unrest; verses became the voice for feelings I could not otherwise speak. Thus began my poetic path — born of struggle, shaped by silence, and carried forward with hope.

Through my poetry I seek to hold my own truths and the truths of others — the griefs, the small joys, the questions we live with. For me, writing is more than expression: it is healing, witness, and a quiet way to keep the soul alive.
